Supply Chain PM Intern (Capstone)

Houston, TX
Internship
Entry Level

Foxconn Industrial Internet is seeking a driven and analytically sharp Supply Chain PM Intern for a semester-long capstone engagement with our SCPM team in Houston, TX. This is not a shadow role — the intern will take ownership of a structured, end-to-end project with real operational impact. Working directly with the planning team, the intern will analyze the commit process for FII's Air-Cooled (AC) product line, identify the root causes of commit misses, design a pre-commit gating framework, and build a simulation model to improve commit accuracy and reliability. The findings and tools developed through this project will be adopted by the Supply Chain planning team and presented to Supply Chain leadership at the program's conclusion.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Document and map the current end-to-end commit process for the AC product line, covering MPS loading, MRP output review, constraint gating, and customer-facing commit steps.

  • Establish baseline commit accuracy metrics by analyzing historical commit vs. actual shipment data to quantify the current gap and identify patterns.

  • Conduct a root cause analysis of commit misses, categorizing failures by constraint type capacity (machine, labor, line), component availability, or planning gaps, and building a Pareto of the top drivers.

  • Design a structured pre-commit gating analysis framework and checklist that evaluates both capacity and component constraints before any customer-facing commitment is made.

  • Build a commit simulation model (Excel-based or equivalent tool of choice) capable of running clear-to-build (CTB) scenario testing against AC product line commits.

  • Validate the simulation model against historical data and run at least two scenario types to confirm accuracy and reliability.

  • Pilot the gating framework and simulation model against live AC product line data and measure before-and-after commit accuracy to demonstrate improvement.

  • Deliver a final recommendations report and implementation roadmap outlining projected improvements in accuracy, planning effectiveness, and operational responsiveness.

  • Present findings, the simulation model, and recommendations to Supply Chain leadership at the end of the program, including a knowledge transfer and handoff to the SCPM team.

REQUIRED SKILLS & TECHNICAL PROFICIENCIES

  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills, including simulation modeling, scenario analysis, data analysis, and pivot tables.

  • Familiarity with supply chain planning concepts: MPS (Master Production Schedule), MRP (Material Requirements Planning), capacity planning, and gating analysis.

  • Experience with process mapping tools such as Visio, Lucidchart, or PowerPoint for current-state and future-state documentation.

  • Data analysis and root cause analysis skills using any tool of choice.

  • SAP familiarity for MPS loading and MRP processing is a plus.

  • Strong PowerPoint and presentation skills for executive-level summary and recommendations delivery.

  • Ability to translate data findings into clear, actionable insights for both technical and non-technical audiences.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from an accredited college or university.

  • Pursuing or recently completed a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Supply Chain Management, Industrial Engineering, Operations Management, Business Administration, or a related field.

  • Completion of relevant coursework in production planning, operations research, or quantitative methods is a strong plus.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.)

  • Responds to change as a positive challenge

  • Comfortable working in a dynamic, fast-paced environment requiring adaptability and the ability to manage multiple priorities.

  • Structured thinker with the ability to break down complex operational problems into clear, manageable workstreams.

WORK SCHEDULE & COMPENSATION

  • Expected commitment of approximately 8-16 hours per week, with flexibility around academic schedules.

  • Flexible scheduling available to accommodate academic commitments.

  • Compensation commensurate with experience and qualifications.
